Delhi EVMs under paramilitary forces' eye

New Delhi, Dec 4 (IANS): Paramilitary forces will keep a watch on the electronic voting machines (EVMs) to be kept in strong rooms till the results of the Delhi assembly elections are out Sunday, officials said.

"A total of 11,993 EVMs will be put in the strong rooms at different places in every district of Delhi," an official of the Delhi Election Commission told IANS.

"Places like the Commonwealth Games Village near Mayur Vihar, ITI in Khichdipur, Vivekanand Mahila Vidyalaya in Vivek Vihar have been selected to put the EVMs under high security watched by paramilitary forces," the officer said.

The machines will be shifted to the strong rooms late at night. Each district has at least two strong rooms.

Delhi witnessed a record turnout of voters Wednesday. Around 70,000 government officials, including those of Delhi Police, paramilitary forces and home guards, were deployed to ensure peaceful polls.
