Bangalore, Apr 20: The draft prepared by Justice Kuldeep Singh-led commission for delimitation of Parliamentary and Assembly constituencies is ready waiting for the final approval. 

Informed sources here said that the final touches to the draft will be given on a meeting to be held on May 11. The draft has been prepared on the basis of the census of 2001.

As per the draft a total of 4 assembly constituencies will disappear from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district.  But two more new constituencies will be carved out.  Accordingly, the undivided district of Dakshina Kannada will have a total of 13 MLAs instead of the existing number of 15.

At present there are 6 assembly constituencies in Udupi district.  But as per the delimitation draft, one assembly constituency, that is, Brahmavar constituency will disappear and only five constituencies, that is, Udupi, Karkala, Kaup, Kundapur and Byndoor will remain.  Segments of Brahmavar constituency will merge with Udupi, Karkala and Kundapur constituencies.

All these steps have been taken to limit the constituencies with minimum population of 2.25 lac to maximum of 2.70 lac.

In the same manner in the district of Dakshina Kannada Ullal, Mulki-Moodbidri and Vittal constituencies will disappear.  While Ullal will merged  the existing Mangalore town constituency, Mulki-Moodbidri will become part of new Mangalore North constituency.  Parts of Vittal constituency will merge with Puttur, Bantwal and Mangalore South constituencies.

If the draft is accepted as it is, then present Vittal MLA Padmanabh Kottari, Ullal MLA U T Fareed, Mulki-Moodbidri MLA Abhaychandra Jain and Brahmavar MLA K Jayaprakash Hegde will have to look for new territories.

However, the draft is yet to be given final touch.  Having known the politicians well one should not be surprised if the draft will once again be changed, said sources. And, no doubt, Mr Lobby will work day and night on behalf of the loser MLAs.
