BJP airs concern over violence on Bangladesh minorities

Kolkata, Dec 5 (IANS): Expressing concern over "sustained violence against minorities in Bangladesh," the BJP Thursday submitted a memorandum to the Bangladesh high commission in the West Bengal capital, calling for steps to stop the violence.

West Bengal Bharatiya Janata Party president Rahul Sinha submitted the memorandum, urging the Bangladesh government to prevent the violence, which he said might even disturb the peace in West Bengal.

"Besides the violation of their human rights, the violence on the minorities will compel them to seek refuge in West Bengal, resulting in disturbance of peace and harmony in West Bengal. The ongoing violence is a threat to Bangladesh's effort to grow into a secular country," the memorandum said.

"We, therefore, request you to convey our concern to your government so that it may take the necessary steps to check and prevent violence," the memorandum said.

Talking to reporters later, Sinha criticised the Congress-led central government as well as the Trinamool Congress regime in West Bengal for being silent about such an important issue.
