Mangalore, Apr 25: A major crack down on pirated VCD/DVD and MP3s within Mangalore, the cops of Barke police station and Police Sub Inspector (L&O) raided several shops in the city and seized huge quantity of pirated films and music CDs.



On April 23, the team on being tipped off raided the shops located 5 shops located in Saiben Complex here.

During their raid a total of 3500 pirated VCDs/DVDs/MP3s of Hindi, Kannada, English and Telugu films were obtained.

 


Of these 19 VCDs contained pornographic material as well. After confiscating this material, the cops arrested five persons in this connection.

The accused Razak (25), Abdul Hakem, Althaf (35), Shameer (27) of Mangalore and Sharook (21) of Suratkal have been booked under the Copyrights Act 1957 and the Indian Penal Code.

Total worth of materials seized is approximately Rs 6, 65,000.
