Young Advocate Ganesh Shetty Passes Away

Mangalore: A young advocate and executive committee member of Mangalore Bar Association, Ganesh Shetty, aged 34, passed away on Monday April 24 night.

He was admitted at a private hospital in city after he complained of stomach ache on Friday April 22. He is a resident of Urwa.

Corporation Bank Revises Interest Rates on NRE Deposits

Mangalore: The rate of interest on NRE term deposits have been increased by Corporation Bank from 6 per cent to 6.30 per cent per annum, with effect from Thursday April 20.

The revised rates hold good for all tenures (maturity period one year to less than two years, two years to less than three years and three years to less than ten years).

However, interest rate on NRE savings bank deposits will remain the same at 3.50 per cent.

Religious Preachers Invited to Preach in Military

Mangalore: Applications are invited from different districts for the post of religious preachers in the military. Eligible men, aged between 27 and 34 years of Uttara Kannada, Shimoga, Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Davangere, Hassan, Chikmagalur, Chitradurga and Coorg districts may apply.

The posts that are vacant are 24 for pundits, four for granthi, one for maulvi, three for priests and four for Boudha bikshus.

The applications may be obtained from District Army Welfare department or branch recruitment office, Kulur.  Complete forms should be submitted at the same address before May 20.

Protest Against Campaigns for NPC

Udupi: In yet another setback to Nagarjuna Power Company, a meeting under the leadership of Nandikoor Janajagruti Samiti has taken the decision to protest against any campaign in support of the plant to be built by NPC.

This is in response to a statement by an organisation to stage rallies in support of NPC. It was decided that such campaigns would be put to an end by counter rallies and locals, farmers and people’s representatives will also take part in these rallies.

The meeting was presided over by Samiti president Lakshman L Shetty. Among those present were zilla panchayat members Gerald Fernandes, Shashikanth Padubidri, Mahila Okoota president Sheela K Shetty, Fishermen Federation president Gangadhar Suvarna, Ellur Temple managing trustee Prafulla Shetty, Nandikoor Temple managing trustee Madhwaraya Bhat and various gram panchayat presidents.
