 Bisu Parba Celebrated

Puttur: Bisu parba was celebrated recently at Parani Tulasipuram, under the aegis of Sri Devi Seva Samiti, Parani, Bolli Bolpu Tulukoota, Savanoor, Savanoor Youth Club and Sri Durga Bhajana Mandali, Padebambila. Inauguration was done by Savanoor Vidyarashmi Vidyalaya convener K Seetaram Rai Savanoor. Shivanna Gowda Idyadi, member, Dakshina Kannada ZP presided.

Speaking on the occasion, chief guest Puttur MLA Shakuntala T Shetty said that such religious festivals celebrated in the region have special significance in all walks of life and Bisu should be preserved for the future generation.

The chief guests were Puttur TP president Pakeera M, vice-president Pramila Janardhan, Belandoor gram panchayat president Karunakar Poojary Patte, Sri Kshetra Dharmastala Rural Development Project Self-Help Groups union former president S Raghav Gowda, Parani Sri Devi Seva Samiti convener Padmaiah Gowda Savanoor, Tulukoota president Karunakar Sarakere, Padebambila bhajana mandali president Lokaiah Gowda and others.

Adlabs Introduces ‘Paid Previews’

Mangalore: Here’s a chance for Mangaloreans to set a record of sorts. Adlabs Cinemas has introduced “paid previews” wherein movies will be screened a day prior to their actual release, thereby giving people a chance to watch a movie before anyone else in the world does.

The first movie to have a paid preview will be Darna Zaroori Hai.

National Seminar on Orthopaedics on April 28

Mangalore:  A three-day national-level seminar on Mangalore Orthopaedic Course, organized by the department of orthopaedics, KMC, will be held at TMA Pai International Convention Centre here from April 28 to 30. The seminar will be exclusively for Orthopaedic postgraduate students.

Dr H K T Raza, national president, Indian Orthopaedic Association will inaugurate the session on Friday at 8 am. The chief guest will be Prof C V Raghuveer, dean, KMC. Organising committee chairman and KMC Mangalore Orthopaedics department head Prof Dr M Sudhakar will preside. The guest of honour will be district medical officer Dr Bharati Nirmal.

Renowned orthopaedic surgeons from all over India will take part in the seminar as resource persons. They will speak on different aspects of orthopaedic management and will present scientific papers during the course of the seminar. Around 300 delegates from various medical institutions in the country are expected to be present.

Minister Rules Out Extension of Tenure

Mangalore: In response to the demands of gram panchayat members at Mangalore taluk grama panchayat members’ convention here on Tuesday April 25, rural development minister C M Udasi said the tenure of gram panchayat presidents cannot be extended to five years.

He said although developmental works in rural areas was getting affected due to short term of presidents and vice-presidents of gram panchayat, no change was possible owing to reservation policy.

Cadre and recruitment rules would undergo amendment to facilitate early appointments to the long-vacant gram panchayat secretary posts. The seat reservation system would also be changed and as per the new rule, the seats would be reserved for 10 years.
