Mangalore, Apr 27: The Justice K S Hegde Charitable Foundation and the Nitte Education Trust have chosen the former Attorney-General Soli J Sorabjee for this year's Justice K S Hegde Charitable Foundation Award.
Addressing presspersons here on Wednesday, N Vinay Hegde, chairman, Nitte Education Trust, said the award carried a purse of Rs 2 lac and a citation. Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission and former Chief Justice of India A S Anand would present the award at the T M A Pai International Convention Centre here on April 29.
Sorabjee will deliver the foundation day lecture on "Challenges in democracy-we have promises to keep" on the occasion.
The former Attorney-General has been chosen for the award for his contribution in the field of law and human rights.
The late K S Hegde served as Chief Justice of the Delhi and Himachal Pradesh High Courts. He was also a judge of the Supreme Court and was later elected Speaker of the Lok Sabha. After his retirement, K S Hegde settled down at Nitte village in Karkala taluk of Udupi district.
