London, Dec 16 (IANS): English Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur Monday sacked manager Andre Villas-Boas less than 18 hours after their 0-5 home defeat to Liverpool.
"The club can announce that agreement has been reached with head coach Andre Villas-Boas for the termination of his services," said a Spurs statement, reports Xinhua.
"The decision was by mutual consent and in the interests of all parties."
The defeat to Liverpool, the club's worst at home in 16 years, was just one of their league failures in the past month. The north London outfit also lost away to Manchester City 0-6 and West Ham 0-3.
Spurs are now seventh in the Premier League and eight points behind leaders and arch rivals Arsenal.
The 36-year-old Villas-Boas, who previously managed Chelsea and Porto, took over at Tottenham in July 2012.
The statement added: "We wish Andre well for the future. We shall make a further announcement in due course."
