Mangalore, Apr 27: Expert swimmer and swimming coach at NIT-K Suratkal Dayanand Kharvi on Thursday April 27 at 12.00 pm reached the shores at Old Port after swimming a distance of 150 kilometres from Gangolli. Though this is a new record shattering all the previous records, owing to lack of media exposure and non-availability of verification agency to qualify it as a record, the effort will not go into any record books.
As reported earlier, Dayanand was to start his adventure on Tuesday April 25 night. Owing to the rough sea, he embarked on his mission on Wednesday April 26 at 11.50 am at Gangolli port. He surprised all by entering the sea through the estuary within 20 minutes.
He reached Malpe on Wednesday night where he was honoured in the middle of the sea by Pramod Madhwaraj. Nagraj Kharvi who had been Dayanand's companion from Gangolli came up at Malpe. His place was taken by Rajesh Kharvi from Malpe.
Meanwhile Nagraj Kharvi broke the existing record by reaching Malpe within 8 hours from Gangolli. The earlier record was held by Gopal Kharvi who had covered the same distance in 11 hours. Nagraj is an employee of Ozone Adventure Gear organization of Shimoga.
