Mangalore, Apr 28: A ‘Fruit and Flower Show’ at Kadri Park was organized by the Horticulture Department in association with DK Zilla Panchyat and district administration and Siri Horticulture Association on Thursday.
The exhibition was inaugurated by ZP president Mamatha D S Gatty.
MLA N Yogish Bhat who was the chief guest said that certain special flowers including Mangaluru Mallige (jasmine), can be placed in the international market and thus global markets can be provided or flowers.
At a time when Mangalore is turning into an export-oriented city with international airport, SEZ and many other facilities offered for international trade, foreign flower trade must also be promoted, he said.
The four-day exhibition has been organized at a cost of Rs 1 lac and participants from Banglaore and Ooty have joined the event.
Apart from variety of flower and fruits on display, the 8-ft pyramid shaped flower arrangement with over 600 roses is the centre of attraction at the venue.
