Beltangady, Apr 30: Palar Colony is a tiny hamlet in Kashipatna gram panchayat limits of Beltangady taluk. As many as 17 families are residing in Palar Colony and most of them hail from Scheduled Caste and Tribes, who are landless agriculture labourers.

Palar colony is devoid of civic amenities like drinking water supply, electricity and toilets. In absence of proper road network the hamlet is floating in splendid isolation.

But Total Sanitation Drive programme implemented by Zilla Panchayat in association with Taluk and Gram Panchayat and other organization has bought significant changes in the life of the residents of Palar Colony. A programme was organized on Friday to mark the inauguration of 17 toilets and open well in the colony.

Education is still a luxury for residents of the hamlet as primary school is located four kilometers away. Most of the kids discontinue their studies in order to augment the meager income of their family.

Though an open well has been shrunk in Palar colony it is not ready for public use as work of constructing the wall is pending. Administration ha promised a link road to the hamlet which will be of a great help to the residents especially in monsoon and also of providing electricity supply. Onus is now on the administration of turning these promises into reality.
