Kuwait, May 1: The hosts, Sharq United continued their unbeaten run in the Sharq United Champions Trophy - 2006 that took-off since April 7, 2006 with 16 cricket teams of Kuwait onboard, when they went on to beat Rising XI in the much awaited grand finale on April 28, 2006 played at the Sharq Cricket Ground, Kuwait.
This was Sharq United’s sixth cricket tournament and was their first 10-over event. Steve, captain of Sharq United won the toss and elected to bat. Mubin captained the Rising XI team. The final turned out to be a nail-biting affair until the last ball was bowled. Batting first, Sharq United scored 56 for 6 in their 10 overs and Rising XI managed to reach 51 for 8.

The post match presentation ceremony was hosted by Mahesh Prabhu, President of Sharq United. The elite panel of guests for the ceremony included prominent personalities in Kuwait, namely Sudhakar Shetty, Deputy CEO of Kuwait Cricket Association and Secretary of KOC Cricket Committee; Mahmoud Bastaki, Vice Chairman of the Kuwaiti Banks Club and Captain of BMKE Cricket Team; Abdullah Al-Mujadi from the Kuwait University Democratic Circle; S.M. Adil, Nawaf Al-Kout, Moath Al-Manayes, Abdulaziz Khajah and Anas Al-Otaibi from Gulf Insurance Company.
In their short speeches, both chief guests Mr. Shetty and Mr. Bastaki extended their best wishes to the winners, runners up and the organizers and also expressed their delight to be part of such an exciting event. Apart from the above-mentioned guests, Mahesh Prabhu, during his concluding speech, thanked Lawrence D’Souza and Ghazi Al-Abdul Razzak of Caesars Group; and Khalid Al-Hassan of Gulf Insurance Company for their tremendous support extended to the Sharq United Club in connection to hosting this tournament.

Apart from the cricket awards, William Alwyn Fernandes was honoured with the ‘Champion of Sharq United’ award for his exceptional contribution to the club. Patric Pinto and Roshan Dias officiated the final match, whereas Alwyn D’Almeida was the chief scorer. The video and photography of the final match and presentation ceremony was covered by Swayaraj Kumar and Melvin D’Souza while K.S. Kalappa administered the entire requirement for the tourney. The event concluded with victory celebrations from Sharq United.
