Kundapur, May 2: Summer vacations is a time for enjoyment and fun for students. But at times a bit of carelessness while having fun leads to tragedy too. This was proved very true in the case of two teenaged boys who met a watery grave at Anagalli river near here on Monday May 1 evening.
The deceased have been identified as Girish (17), son of the late Gopal Sheregar, of Chickensal Road here and Kirti Prasad (14), son of the late Chandrashekhar Sheregar.
Both of them had gone for swimming in the river near Anagalli-Hattikudru Bridge along with several other friends on Monday evening. As they began swimming, a few persons who were engaged in sand mining warned them and asked them to leave the place. So all the boys left that place and went to swim on the other side of the bridge.
As they reached deep waters, Kirti Prasad began drowning due to strong underwater current. At this point, Girish went to rescue him. But he too drowned in the deep waters soon. Other boys who were around fled the place immediately seeing the duo drowning.
It was only late in the evening that their bodies were fished out of the river. While Kirti Prasad was a class IX student at St Mary's High School here, Girish was working in the pharmaceutical shop of his relatives after completing his SSLC.
It is sad to note that both the boys had lost their fathers a few years ago. Both the boys were good friends of each other since their families lived in the same vicinity.
The Kundapur police have registered a case in this regard.
