Mangalore, May 4: ‘Chinnara Bimba’, a children’s troupe under Mumbai’s Kala Jagathu has organised ‘Suvarna Karnataka Mahotsava Abhiyana’, a series of performances depicting the Tulu culture in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts from Wednesday May 3 to Sunday May 7.

Speaking to press persons here on Wednesday, Kala Jagathu president Vijay Kumar Shetty informed that this was an attempt to revive the rich culture of the undivided Dakshina Kannada district among the young generation. Most of the children’s parents are residing either in Dakshina Kannada or Udupi. The Kala Jagathu has taught Tulu and Kannada to nearly 1000 English medium students below 15 years, said Shetty.

A total of 87 child artistes hailing from Karnataka and residing in Mumbai are taking part in the event. The first performance was held at Admar on Wednesday May 3, with a drama entitled Sharashayye. The troupe will perform dances, yakshagana, folk arts and songs depicting the culture of the two districts. They will also be given a guided tour of the places of heritage and spiritual places.

The troupe will perform at Dharmasthala on Thursday May 4, Town Hall in city on Friday May 5, Rajangana auditorium of Udupi Krishna temple on Saturday May 6 and terminate their tour with a performance on Sunday May 7 at Alva’s Education Trust, Moodbidri.
