Udupi, May 4: Thursday was a red lettered day for Udupi. The day was marked by the post centenary silver jubilee (125th year) of Udupi's Mother of Sorrows Church, which was celebrated with great vigour.
Bishop of Mangalore Fr Aloysius D' Souza, Bishop of Bidar Fr Robert Miranda, Udupi parish priest Fr Mathew Vaz and over 30 priests from various parishes joined together in offered the solemn festal Eucharist.
Episcopal Vicar and Moodubelle parish priest Fr Valerian D'Souza inaugurated the new chapel.
The event was also graced by Union Minister Oscar Fernandes, state minister Dr V S Acharya, former MP Vinay Sorake, Maulana Khaji and Shiror Math seer Vallaba Sripadha.
At the stage programme organised, vice president of the parish council Irwin Alva read out the history of the church while the programme was compered by Alphonse D' Costa.
