Kejriwal delivers on promise of free water

New Delhi, Dec 30 (PTI) : Fulfilling its poll promise, the Aam Aadmi Party government on Monday announced 667 litres of free water daily for domestic consumption to each household having metered connection in Delhi.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the Delhi Jal Board chaired by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal at his residence in Ghaziabad in Kausambi.

“All the domestic consumers having metered connection will get 20 kilolitres of water free of cost from January 1. We will not even levy any existing charges such as water cess and sewerage charge,” newly-appointed Delhi Jal Board CEO Vijay Kumar told reporters.

He, however, said if the consumption limit crosses 20 kilolitres, then the consumer will have to pay for the water and other charges.

Mr. Kumar was appointed CEO of DJB on Saturday evening in place of Debashree Mukherjee who is understood to have reservation over supplying water free of cost.

In its election manifesto, the Aam Admi Party had announced that 700 litres of free water will be supplied daily to each household if it comes to power.

Last month, Delhi Jal Board had planned to increase the water tariff by 10 per cent from January to improve its finances.

It is not immediately clear whether government will charge for water being supplied to over 1,600 unauthorised colonies across the city as in most households in these settlements water metres are yet to be installed.

Good move. Kejriwal is man with purpose. Delhi government was looting money on water at the cost of people. They used to charge high for water and pocket the money. Kejriwal, well aware of this and made this promise.

Good going boss ! If everything goes well as promised by you, I am sure Corrupt Congress and Communal BJP (directed by RSS) will bite the dust. However, will these seasoned corrupt and communal political parties will allow you to fulfill your promises is a question. When they feel their demand is fading and their power is reduced, they may play foul with your party and even may try to eradicate you by crooked means. The people of India have great hopes on you. May God give you and your party people wisdom and strength to serve the country and its desperate people. Jai Hind.

Aam Aadmi Party voters are in the quagmire by introducing many, many promises.

Let them deliver their promises and that is the reason congress supported AAP.

    The fun has started.

In the elections AAP promised 700 liters of water free of charge.

    Now 670 liters free.

If exceeded all the 670 liters as well as excess consumed will be charged a 10 percent charge more.

    GOOD GOING.

    Shettre,

Whatever the scheme, something is better than nothing.

AAP will bring some justice to people from the corrupt politicians and corruption in the society. Let him do the job it is only a question of time. He has already pronounced that he alone cannot solve the problems but with the support of common man he would try to eradicate the virus.

People should join ends to support him, rather than, criticizing his ideology.

    Dear,
DO you have any idea about the catch behind this scheme???
Free water upto 660 liters only if you cross that you need to pay plus 10% extra.
Do you know how much liters you use per day? Minimum 150 liters per person. An average family has 4 -5 members so easily it will cross 660 liters unless some people stop taking showers.
This is just like some mobile phone scheme and all are applauding without understanding the whole game.
Wake up India. Unless you wake up people like this will thrive.
    Be smart vote smart.

This is the good moves by the AAP and that is why the Rahulji supports the AAP Govt.He is recognise the threats to the secular fabrics of India from the communal forces and so a secular Govt is installed in delhi. Now the Kejriwal must provide the free gaseous connections to the people like the waters and electricity also.constructions of toilets must also be the proirity of AAP Govts as lack of toilets is making the public nuisance with open defecations in publics places.that creates the bad smells and offends the tourists visiting monuments in delhi. All the best to the AAP it is definitely the new gust of wind in the political spectrums.

    What an eye-wash!
Kejriwal has turned into a pakka politician.
AAP promised 700 ltrs free water to everyone on its manifesto. Now it has d 600 odd ltrs. This will be given to only people who have metered connections. the reports say that all the people with metered connections use regularly much more than the limit of 600 ltrs ending up paying for the water they use even after the scheme is implemented.
Ultimately only less than 10% of the people with metered connections will benefit from this scheme.
What happens to the people living in slums who fell for AAPs fake promises? they dont have a tap connection. What about the people who depend on tanker water?
AAP which gained power by cheating people with Xanadu dreams will face horrible end soon!

I feel there is no need to give anything free as nothing comes free. Rather they should have a plan to provide basic necessities like water and electricity at a very cheap rate so that an average common man can easily afford such things. Instead of free ideal scenario would be say a bill of max. Rs 200 per month for water & electricity for every house hold. Also should make plans to ensure that the supply is there 24x7. Then common man's life becomes smooth.

Whether it is Congress\BJP\JDS\JDU or any other Govt. is bankrupt always.
The only difference in that is, except AAP all other Political parties make the Govt. bankrupt by fleecing it to fill their pockets BUT
AAP is making Govt. bankrupt by giving back to the people free to certain extent by way of essentials like water, electricity, housing for the poor etc. which is very very praiseworthy.
I wish AAP GODSPEED in taking over all India basis soonest.
They should be looking out for suitable people to take over responsibilities and work honestly, so that AAP will make great strides in managing\running the Country's affairs very very well.
    Wish you well.

Very early days. There's no such thing as a "free ride" in this world. As with MNREGA and the food security bill, you have to take it from Paul to give it to Peter. To skeptics who are bothered 'bout additional expenditure, don't worry, Delhi has surplus budget and the free water will cost only 1% of the tax revenue. This can be easily managed by reducing corruption (On average 20% of revenue goes there) and increasing efficiency and better management.

We have never seen anyone questioning about the 30,000 crores tax revenue of Delhi and how each rupee is spent. Now when a Govt do something good, we have questions. When most of our tax money goes to our self-serving politicians, we should be glad that at least people are getting water for free. Nobody is going to stop working or become lazy because they got free water. They will be thankful and do ten times more in return to the sate. Free water is the first step in restoring dignity of human beings.

Hats-Of to AAP. You have walked the talk.It is for the critics to at least conclude that a sincere effort is being made by AAP within 2 days of its coming to power. But if one wants to criticize like the BJP in Delhi who seem be responding to this decision by saying that AAP promised 700 liters per day, then why 667. One more caution is the persons/business houses who are beneficiaries of the corrupt system will try its best till the last to defame any sincere person or party trying to clean the system. Anyhow, All the Best to AAP for the Lok Sabha.
