Muscat, Jan 1 (IANS): An Indian national reportedly committed suicide in his home at Barka in northern Oman.
Anil Kumar, 38, hailing from the south Indian state of Kerala, had reportedly slit his throat with a knife at around 8:30 p.m. Monday, the Times Of Oman reported Wednesday.
"He was lying on the floor. He was seen in a disturbed state. His roommate was lying on a bed nearby, having consumed some medicine. The roommate heard some sound. He was shocked to see Anil trying to commit suicide,” a friend of the deceased was quoted as saying.
“So, he got up and ran outside the room. He called us on the phone and also the (Anil Kumar's) sponsor. Meanwhile, Anil somehow came to the door and locked it from inside," the friend added.
According to the friends of the victim, police reached the spot and found Anil dead.
Anil was working as a driller for the last five months in a company near Barka. The roommate of Anil was taken into custody by the police for questioning and was released Tuesday.
The reason why the man committed suicide is not clear yet.
