Mangalore, May 6: The city on Saturday, May 6 witnessed the spirit of unity displayed by women of the Navodaya Self Help Groups.

The Taluk Convention of the Navodaya Self Help Groups was that forum which brought together all the Navodaya SHGs together.

The mega event was held at the Loyala Hall and was organized by the Navodaya Gram Vikas Charitable Trust, Mangalore and the Taluk Convention Committee of Navodaya Self Help Group.

To mark this event, a colourful procession began from Nehru Maidan here and culminated at the venue of the convention and was flagged of by president of Taluk Panchayat Gokuldas Shetty.



Former Chief Minister and leader of the opposition Dharma Singh inaugurated the convention. Minister for Housing D T Jayakumar, Director, DK district Central Co-operative Bank Limited, Mangalore, trustees Navodaya Gram Vikas Charitable Trust Bhaskar S Kotian and Monappa Shetty were also present on the occasion.



At the convention special awards were given away. Mohan Devadiga of Nagori Co-operative Bank bagged the award for best co-operative member of Mangalore taluk, while the best agriculturist award was bagged by Manjunath Bhandary Gurupura.



The best primary agriculture co-operative bank award was given to Kotekar Bank and the best CEO award was given to P Divakar Rao.
