Mangalore, May 7: Indeed a pride to all the Kannadigas, Commandant Manoj Vasant Badkar has scaled to the height of being the first Kannadiga to spearhead the Karnataka Coast Guard.
Badkar took over as the VIII commander of Karnataka Coast Guard on Saturday, May 6.
After schooling at St Joseph High School Karwar, Badkar completed his graduation in Government Arts and Science College.
He was honored with the Director General of Coast Guard Award for being adjourned the Best Assistant Commandant on completion of training in 1987. He has undergone training at various naval and coast guard establishments. He has also under gone an Incident Management course, with the HMS Coast Guard at London.
In addition to various operations and staff appointments in all the regions of the Coast Guard, he has commanded two Coast Guard ships and one Coast Guard station.
Prior to taking over as the Coast Guard commander of Karnataka, he was the commandant operations officer of the first ever unified command of the country, the Andaman and Nicobar command, headquartered at Port Blair, Andaman.
