'Pillar Box System' betters power supply in Haryana

Gurgaon, Jan 8 (IANS): The Haryana discoms intend to strengthen power supply infrastructure in all villages and urban areas by laying the "Pillar Box System" technology to give round-the-clock supply to consumers, a spokesman said Wednesday.

However, the scheme is entirely voluntary.

A spokesman of the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam and the Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam said the "Pillar Box System" of electricity distribution is the best way of giving reliable, safe and qualitative power supply in urban and rural areas.

The introduction of pillar boxes, he said, had led to increase in the number of connections, being released on the spot by organising camps in villages and urban localities.

The spokesman said a rebate of 30 per cent was being given in villages opting for the scheme. This rebate is given to pass on the additional revenue from new connections to honest paying consumers in villages.

Under this system, the low tension portion of supply was being minimised, naked conductor replaced with insulated cables and meters relocated in pillar boxes outside houses.

A complete overhauling/renovation of the distribution system will be undertaken. It is estimated that about Rs.25 to 50 lakh would be spent to strengthen the system in rural and urban localities.
