Mangalore, May 10 ( Wednesday, 1-45 pm) : It was a red-letter day for the domestic airport here as the Jet Air flight no. 9W519 arriving from Bangalore hovered over Bajpe at 10-00 am on Wednesday May 10 and landed on the newly-laid runway on the Adyapady hill at 10-03 am.

Airport director M R Vasudeva, looking happy at a major milestone achieved after his strenuous efforts in getting the runway laid, and other officials beside the Jet Air officials waved at the cockpit and welcomed the flight. Capt Dayakar, who has over 10 years' flying experience, said he had earlier made several landings on the old runway.

It is to be observed all airlines depute pilots with maximum experience and service to land at Mangalore.

As soon as the Jet Air flight landed, the Air Deccan flight from Bangalore too arrived. Perhaps for safety's sake, its pilot landed it on the old runway. Around 1-00 pm Air Alliance flight also landed on the new runway.

Speaking exclusively to Daijiworld, director Vasudeva said as part of his duty he had ensured the completion of work. Regarding the international flights, there was no immediate confirmation since it was for the airlines to chase the matter, said the airport sources.
