Udupi, May 11: V Ponnuraj, IAS assumed power as the eighth deputy commissioner of the district from in-charge deputy commissioner R Shantaraj on Wednesday May 10. He also took over as the president of Udupi Urban Development Authority and administrator of Sri Mookambika Temple, Kollur.
V Ponnuraj who hails from Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu was born on May 15, 1973. He holds a masters degree in Agricultural Economics. He belongs to the IAS batch of the year 2000. He was the Assistant Commissioner (AC) of Bhatkal from 2002-04 before being appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Bagalkot ZP from where he has been promoted as deputy commissioner to the district.
The district will soon be in the hands of a "family" as Ponnuraj's wife Hemlatha is appointed CEO of the ZP. She will take charge on Monday May 15. After being an AC in Kundapur she is presently serving as the general manager of rehabilitation department of Upper Krishna Project.
District in-charge minister Dr V S Acharya, MLA K Raghupati Bhat and others were present on the occasion.
