Los Angeles, Jan 13 (IANS): Actress Diane Keaton accepted the prestigious Cecil B. DeMille award on behalf of her friend, filmmaker Woody Allen, who was honoured for his outstanding contribution to the world of entertainment at the 71st Golden Globe Awards here Sunday.

Allen was saluted by Keaton, who starred in the filmmaker's 1977 movie "Annie Hall", and by Emma Stone, who features in his upcoming film "Magic In The Moonlight", his 49th project as a writer and director, reports thehollywoodreporter.com.

Both the lovely ladies presented a highlight reel of his films, including scenes from "Annie Hall", "Bullets Over Broadway", "Manhattan", "Stardust Memories", "Vicky Cristina Barcelona", "Midnight in Paris", "Blue Jasmine" and more.

Post the highlight played, Keaton, who had won a Golden Globe as well as an Oscar for her role in "Annie Hall", reminded the audience of the fact that as many 179 actresses have so far appeared in Allen's films.

"And there's a reason for this. And the reason is, they wanted to. They wanted to because Woody's women can't be compartmentalized. They struggle, they love, they fall apart, they dominate, they're flawed."

"They are, in fact, the hallmark of Woody's work. But what's even more remarkable is absolutely nothing links these unforgettable characters from the fact that they came from the mind of Woody Allen," she said of her friend of 45 years.

She also sang a song for her longtime friend.

Allen in his career has won four Oscars and two Golden Globes. His most recent movie, "Blue Jasmine", was nominated for two Golden Globes Sunday night with star Cate Blanchett later winning the Golden Globe for best actress in a motion picture drama.

The Cecil B. DeMille Award recipient is chosen by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association's Board of Directors and is given to talented individuals who have made an incredible impact on the world of entertainment.

Past recipients include Jodie Foster, Morgan Freeman, Robert De Niro, Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg, Anthony Hopkins, Michael Douglas, Harrison Ford and Al Pacino.
