New Delhi, Jan 13 (IANS): The total approximate earnings of the Indian Railways on originating basis duing the April 1-Dec 31, 2013 period were Rs.101,665.95 crore compared to Rs.89,701.14 crore during the like period the previous year -- registering a 13.34 per cent increase, an official statement said here Monday.
The total goods earnings went up from Rs.62,016.30 crore during April 1-Dec 31, 2012 to Rs.68,782.53 crore during April 1-Dec 31, 2013 -- registering an increase of 10.91 percent.
The total passenger revenue earnings during April 1- Dec 31, 2013 were Rs.27,646.10 crore compared to Rs.23,024.26 crore during the like period last year -- registering an increase of 20.07 per cent.
The approximate revenue earnings from other coaching amounted to Rs.2,862.22 crore during April-December 2013 compared to Rs.2,345.23 crore during the same period last year -- an increase of 22.04 percent.
The total approximate numbers of passengers booked during April 1-Dec 31, 2013 were 6359.77 million compared to 6413.89 million during the same period last year -- showing a decrease of 0.84 percent.
In another measure, to enhance safety in train operation during foggy weather, the work to provide Modified Automatic Signals between two stations has been completed before the onset of fog in Automatic Block Signalling territories in North Central Railway and Northern Railway.
Automatic Train Protection System is a vital technological aid to the loco pilot to control the train speed as per signal aspect preventing signal passing at danger which is very critical in foggy weather.
"Works have been sanctioned for provision of Train Protection system on 3,330 route kilometres on Automatic Signalling sections and Heavy Density Network which also covers fog prone sections of Northern Railway and North Central Railway," the release said.
