Jats threaten agitation if denied reservation

Lucknow, Jan 14 (IANS): An organisation based in Uttar Pradesh fighting for reservation for the Jat community in government jobs has threatened to cut off water supply to Delhi in February if its demands are not met.

President of Akhil Bharatiya Jaat Arakshan Samiti, based in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, Yashpal Malik said the Jats were tired of the assurances given by the central government.

Final decision on the issue would be taken by the national executive scheduled to meet next month, he said.

Malik said: "We have had many promises in the past by the central government, after which we withdrew our protests like 'Rail Roko', but now till our demands are met we will not backtrack."

The Jat Arakshan Sangharsh Samiti will also begin Jat reservation awareness campaign in all districts of the state from Jan 31.
