Udupi, May 12: The valedictory of a week-long Yakshagana festival to mark the inauguration of the Yakshagana Art Complex 'Shivaprabha' at Hayagrivanagar was held here on Wednesday May 10.
Speaking on the occasion, B A Vivek Rai, vice-chancellor, Hampi Kannada University, said that the Yakshagana art has helped in the development of Kannada language in coastal Karnataka. Recognising Yakshagana as an integral part of the cultural heritage of coastal part of the state, he said that even in present times it contributes a lot to the people of our society.
A book entitled Mudi authored by Yakshagana artiste Prabhakar Joshi was released on the occasion by Dharmastala Dharmadhikari Dr Veerendra Heggade.
Among those present were Sugunendra Thirta Swami of Puthige Math of Krishna Temple, Udupi and K K Pai, chairman of the trust.
