Bangalore, May 12: Two young boys died in a blast at a house in Bangalore after playing with material that turned out to be explosive.

Two young boys, 13-year-old Prashanth, the son of an ex-serviceman and his four-year-old neighbour Sujan Raj whose father is still in service were killed after an explosion in Prashant's house.

The police have said the deaths were a tragic accident that took place on Friday, May 12 at Banaswadi in Bangalore.

"The interim investigation after the experts from the MEG, ballistic experts and the explosives experts from the Forensic Department in Bangalore has revealed that the device that we have recovered is air defence cartridge which has been used and misfired," ACP R Lakshmana said.

"These boys must have picked up which was thrown elsewhere. With curiosity, the boys must have used a hammer to break open and see what it is," Lakshmana added.

The neighbourhood is full of families of servicemen and ex-servicemen and there was a feeling of shock at the unexpected deaths.

"At around 8.30 or 9 we heard a sound like a transformer blast. We all came to see - one child was injured and taken to the clinic," said Manikantan a neighbour.

Investigations into the accident are still on and the police have ruled out any foul play.
