Norway keen to invest in Himachal Pradesh


New Delhi, Jan 20 (IANS): Norway's Ambassador Eivind S. Homme called on Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh here Sunday and expressed interest in investing in the state's hydropower projects.

"Norway has expressed desire to invest in a big way, particularly in the hydropower sector," a state government statement said.

Homme apprised the chief minister of Norway's good track record in the field of hydropower technologies and said its company, S.N. Power, has stakes in two hydropower projects in Kullu district of the state - the 192-MW Allain Duhangan and the 109-MW Malana.

Virbhadra Singh assured all possible assistance to Norway to give boost to the bilateral relations between the two countries, besides giving fillip to investment and trade in hydropower and tourism sectors.

He said the state was providing facilities like eco-friendly environment and sufficient electricity supply on economically viable rates to promote investments.

Tourism, horticulture and hydropower generation are the major contributors to Himachal Pradesh's economic development.
