Mumbai, May 16: Bollywood's heart throb, Madhuri Dixit celebrated her 39th birthday on Monday. Madhuri began her career in 1986 with Abodh. The film sank without a trace but a star was born.
In 1988, she had a major hit with Tezaab and became the reigning queen of Bollywood. Following Tezaab's success, she belted hits such as Ram Lakhan, Parinda, Tridev. With Dil, she got her first Filmfare Award.
If Tezaab launched her into stardom, Hum Aapke Hain Kaun in 1994 made her an icon.
However, it was just not in commercial movies that she showcased her talent.
Madhuri proved her mettle as an actress with roles in films like Prahaar, Parinda, Pukaar and Lajja.
Her charisma played even on renowned painter M F Hussain's canvas. He turned to filmmaking just for Madhuri with the actress playing the eternal muse in Gajagamini.
In 1997, Madhuri married US-based Dr Sriram Nede and moved on. With this, her Bollywood career took a backseat. She was last seen in 2002 in Devdas.
A mother of two and settled in California, her appearances in movies have become few and far between. Chances of her return to Bollywood too are slim.
