Jakarta, Jan 22 (IANS): India is looking for more investment opportunities in the Indonesian province of East Kalimantan.

India's ambassador to Indonesia Gurjit Singh, who is leading a 28-member India Business Forum (IBF) delegation and a cultural troupe to Samarinda, the capital of East Kalimantan, met the province's vice governor Mukmin Faisyal, according to a statement issued Wednesday by the Indian embassy in Jakarta.

During his meeting, the ambassador emphasised that his mission to East Kalimantan was to enhance economic engagement with the region by encouraging more investment by Indian companies in the mineral-rich province and high-level B2B engagement.

He said that although a number of Indian companies have already made investments to the tune of about $4-$5 billion in the coal mining sector in East Kalimantan, Indian businessmen were looking for more investment opportunities.

Faisyal welcomed the ambassador’s proposals and said a delegation of the government and industry of East Kalimantan would be sent to India.

This was the first major Indian business delegation to visit East Kalimantan after the election of the province's new governor and vice governor recently and the largest IBF delegation to visit an Indian province.

The visit was part of the Indian embassy’s outreach programmes to regions of Indonesia. Earlier, such missions have been taken to Manado, Bali, Medan, Surabaya and Semarang.

The IBF delegation to East Kalimantan included representatives from the power, mining, infrastructure, heavy equipment, textiles and banking sectors.
