Mangalore, May 17 [8-15 am IST] : An LPG carrying tanker which turned turtle after colliding into a truck carrying iron ore disrupted traffic on the NH 48.
The mishap occurred at 1.10 am following which traffic was diverted to BC Road via Thokuttu.
The truck was on its way to Mangalore and at the curve at Volachil near Farangipet the speeding LPG tanker rammed into the truck. The driver of the tanker has sustained injuries but no casualties have been reported.
Both the vehicles were severely mangled in the collision.
The fire service crew and the Hindustan Petroleum emergency squad and the district police were in action at the seen.
Utmost precaution was taken at the spot to ensure that no igniting elements were used in the rescue as the tanker was carrying highly inflammable petroleum gas.
According to the fire fighting crew, the gas from the tanker will be shifted to another tanker which would take not less than eight hours. Traffic will be diverted from the highway till 4 pm, he informed.
