New Delhi, Jan 28 (IANS): Bharti Entreprises Tuesday rejigged its top management team to form a "Governance Board" from the next financial year to guide the group's growth.
The new structure, Bharti Entreprises Governance Board (BEGB), will empower the top management teams and strengthen corporate governance, the company said in a statement here.
BEGB will comprise Sunil Bharti Mittal, chairman of Bharti Enterprises, three vice chairmen Rakesh Bharti Mittal, Rajan Bharti Mittal and Akhil Gupta, and managing director Manoj Kohli and four Bharti veterans.
"The new structure reflects the next phase of Bharti’s growth journey, which will be led by best-in-class professionals in various segments. This is another step towards transforming the group from entrepreneur-led professional-backed to a professional-led entrepreneur-backed one,” said Sunil Bharti Mittal, chairman, Bharti Enterprises.
Akhil Gupta has been designated as chairman of Bharti Infratel and vice chairman of Bharti Enterprises. He will serve on other Bharti boards.
D.S. Rawat, chief executive officer of Bharti Infratel, has been appointed managing director and chief executive officer of Bharti Infratel and is being inducted into the board of the company.
Manoj Kohli, managing director and chief executive officer (international), Bharti Airtel, will take over as managing director of Bharti Enterprises to lead the oversight of all non-telecom businesses of the group - retail, insurance, food and agriculture, realty and others.
In addition, Kohli will serve on various Bharti boards including Airtel and be the chairman of Bharti Airtel International (Netherlands) BV, that owns Airtel's African operations.
For the listed companies, the supremacy of the respective boards will be complimented by professionals and management bodies led by the managing director and chief executive officer, said the group.
For professional and structured oversight of the non-listed group companies, a new position of managing director - Bharti Enterprises is being created, the statement said.
