Doha, May 18: Thirteen-year old Stephanie Senita Rego is one girl who would be the envy of the most brilliant masterminds. The whizkid topped in Qatar and emerged fourth in the Arab region in the junior category of the 21st Annual Regional General Knowledge Fest organised by the Arab Regional Office of United Schools International, Bahrain. A remarkable achievement indeed, for as many as 1571 students across 22 schools from all over the Gulf region participated in the event.

Stephanie comes from a family of sport persons. She is the daughter of Steevan and Felcita Rego and has a brother by name Stewart. Although originating from Shirva, the family stays in Doha, where both are members of Mangalore Cricket Club (MCC). Steevan has the distinction of being the captain of MCC Cricket Team while Felcita is the vice-captain of the MCC Throwball Team.

The teenager is currently studying in Std IX at the Ideal Indian School, Qatar. She has been awarded special certificates of merit in recognition of her stupendous fete and has been felicitated by her school. 

United Schools International (USI) which conducted the event, functions in collaboration with Bahrain National Commission for UNESCO. With membership in 52 countries, USI promotes teaching about the United Nations in schools all over the world. It has Consultative Status with FAO, UNICEF, the UN and operational relations with UNESCO.
