Bangalore / Mangalore, May 18: The nail-biting wait has been so frustrating. The suspense is simply killing for thousands of PUC students and their parents, as also the college managements, right from the first week of May, when the II PUC results were to be originally out.

Several announcements of delays and fresh dates later, May 18 was to be the final day of announcement in colleges and May 17, 5 pm was the time for the results to be checked out on the Internet.

Around noon on May 17, a Kannada news channel announced that the results could be postponed by indefinite time. By 3 pm, one of the websites which was to publish the results said that because technical problems faced by the PUC board the results had been postponed.

Reports from Bangalore late in the evening said there was a major breakdown in the computer software used in the tabulation and storage of marks, and it could take at least three days to set it right. This was in spite of the brightest computer brains around going after the troubleshooting mission on a war footing.

There were also rumours that something more serious could be the reason for the postponement and the software breakdown theory could be only a camouflage. Daijiworld.com does not wish it to be true.

This news has put the entire PUC candidate community in a quandary. Many are worried about the veracity and pattern of the results, whether the accurate marks earned by them in the examinations will be really reflected in the marks card.

With no correct and latest information on the status and possible date of announcement available on the official websites, hundreds of emails were aimed at Daijiworld.com and our mailboxes were flooded with anxious enquiries regarding the results, some even pleading with us to use our good offices in getting out the results as early as possible!

Even the colleges had a tough time with enquiries over enquiries, with even students flooding their institutions seeking the latest position regarding the announcement of the results.

The ire and anxiety of the students was not only understandable, but justified as well. We too were equally frustrated because we could do nothing about it.

PUC Results 'Hang'!

Bangalore:  According to a senior official in the Department of Pre-University Education, the software to process the data relating to the results developed a technical snag and started flashing only 'Error' signals. All efforts by the staff on duty to rectify the snag were of no avail, he said. According to him "the system is hung."

Joint Director in the Department, Shivanna, explained that the officials encountered a problem in the software meant to tabulate theory (90 marks) and internal assessment (10 marks) of students who wrote the examination in the new scheme. The computers were not showing correct tabulated figures in their case, which forced the Department to postpone the announcement of the results.

However, results of students who took examination under the old scheme have been finalised.

Shivanna said the software was developed by National Informatics Centre. Experts from Oracle have been invited to tackle the problem, he added.

This was not the first time that the II PU results were deferred this year. Earlier, Primary and Secondary Education Minister Basavaraj Horatti had fixed the date for the announcement on May 13; that date was later revised to May 17.

As many as 4,70,113 students appeared for the examination from 679 centres during March-April this year.

A total of 92,904 students appeared under the old scheme.

It is said, the company which was entrusted with the work belongs to the relative of PU Education Board Director Gonal Bheemappa. He got the contract through lowest quotation. In previous years, either Infosys or Wipro were entrusted with this work, and there was no problem.

Confusion in Mysore

Mysore: Much to the disappointment of students who wrote this year's II PU examination and their parents, announcement of the results has been postponed for the second time.

The disclosure by the authorities that the marks for practicals and theory were not in conformity has only added to anxiety of the students who were expecting the results two days earlier, as per the announcement.

Technical snag observed while computerising the data relating to the announcement is said to have caused the delay in announcing the results resulting in utter disappointment to more than 25,000 students from the district who wrote the examination.

It was a common sight to see large number of students at cyber centres and colleges, eagerly looking forward to the announcement of results and knowing that their fate was in the hands of the valuers. Many among them could be heard making enquiries with the heads of institutions whether the results were being announced as scheduled.

Principals of some colleges were also seen waiting at the office of the Deputy Director of Pre-University Education in expectation of the results.

In the meanwhile, Ningamma, Deputy Director, Pre-University Education told media persons that announcement of results was delayed due to some glitch in the process of computerisation of the related data and, therefore, there was no need for both students and parents to get anxious.

Among the total number of students who wrote the PU examination earlier this year in the District, 5,915 appeared for science subjects, 3,500 for commerce and 10,888 for arts.

In view of this, it is unlikely that the results would be announced today also, according to sources in the department.
