Cairo, Feb 1 (IANS): Egypt's ousted president Mohamed Morsi Saturday arrived in Cairo for his ongoing trial on charges of inciting violence and killing protesters outside the presidential palace in December 2012.

Morsi was flown in by helicopter from Borg al-Arab prison in Alexandria city where some 14 others belonging to his Muslim Brotherhood group are detained, Xinhua reported citing MENA, the official news agency.

Morsi and defendants from his administration and the Brotherhood group face charges of inciting the killing of 10 opposition protesters. He could face the death penalty if convicted.

The trial started last November. The hearing will be held at the Police Academy complex here amid heavy security.

Saturday's trial marks the third time Morsi has appeared in public since the army removed him from power and put him in custody in July last year.

The three other cases against him are on charges related to escaping from prison during the 2011 uprising that toppled his predecessor Hosni Mubarak, sponsoring terrorism and insulting the judiciary.
