Nalco commissions wind power project in Rajasthan

Bhubaneswar, Feb 1 (IANS): Central government-owned National Aluminium Company Ltd. (Nalco) Saturday said it has commissioned its second 47.6 MW wind power plant at Ludarva of Jaisalmer district in Rajasthan.

This Rs.283-crore wind power project was executed through M/s Gamesa Wind Turbines Private Ltd., involving erection of 56 wind turbines, each of 850 KW, the company said in a statement.

This is the second green initiative of NALCO for promoting sustainable development by harnessing unconventional and renewable energy sources that would credit the company with incentives from the government.

Earlier, the company commissioned its first 50.4 MW wind power plant at a cost of Rs.274 crore at Gandikota of Kadapa district in Andhra Pradesh in December 2012.

The company is also planning to set up the third wind power plant in its own mined out area of Panchpatmali bauxite deposit in Koraput, Odisha, it said.

The Bhubaneswar-headquartered NALCO is India's third largest aluminium maker. As part of its diversification plans, it has been foraying into other metals and energy sectors.
