Four soldiers killed in Afghanistan attack

Kabul, Feb 1 (Xinhua): Four Afghan soldiers were killed and four others wounded in a Taliban ambush Saturday in Afghanistan's western province of Farah, authorities said.

"At around midday, the Taliban carried out an attack on an Afghan army foot patrol in Bala Blouk district. Four soldiers were martyred and four others were wounded," provincial government spokesman Fawad Haskari told Xinhua.

The militants fled after the attack, he said.

Earlier in the day, the Taliban attacked army and police checkpoints in Alasay and Tagab districts of eastern Kapisa province.

"A Taliban local leader named Mawlawi Asif was killed and two Taliban fighters were wounded in the exchange of fire during the attack. But no security personnel was injured," an army source told Xinhua.
