Mangalore, May 20: The Beary Literary Fest, organised by the Central Beary Literary Association was celebrated here on Friday May 19.
Speaking on the occasion Kannada Development Authority former president B M Idinabba said that Bearys should inculcate liberal values. Lauding the contribution of Beary writers to Kannada literature, he said that the Beary community should give importance to education if they have to play a creative role in the mainstream.
U R Ananthamurthy released the book 'Bidugadeya Dari' on the occasion.
Hamza Malhar, author of the novel 'Oru Pennare Kidavu' and Mohammed Baddur, author of 'Kammane,' an anthology, were presented with the Beary Literary Awards on the occasion. Artistes Khalid Taneerbhavi and Ibrahim Taneerbhavi were conferred with the best singer award and best audio album award respectively.
Among those present were Association president M B Abdul Rehman, Alva's Education Foundation founder-chairman Dr M Mohan Alva and Dr B M Hegde, former vice-chancellor, MAHE.
