Kolhapur, May 21: Bollywood "item girl" Rakhi Sawant has been booked in an obscenity case for her gestures and skimpy costume at a stage show in Kolhapur district of Maharashtra.
Sawant performed in a skimpy costume at Kolhapur on May 18 as a brand ambassador for a well-known beer brand, inviting the ire of police who registered a case.
"The performance and her gestures were leading to law and order problem, as a result we asked the organiser to stop the show and they complied with our orders," Superintendent of Police Sukhwinder Singh said.
Sawant, however, is unperturbed. "So what if people call me an item girl? I like it," she said. "I have not received any notice or intimation from the police in the case," Sawant, who was on her way to Solapur for another stage show, told PTI over phone.
"The costumes I wore at the Kolhapur show were made for me by the organiser and featured the brand name," she said. "However, I may not wear the organiser's costumes at Solapur and instead may stick to my own costumes, which include a jacket but not a skirt like the one I wore at Kolhapur."
The Kolhapur show was organized by the Highwords Group of Companies and the organiser, Gaurav Thakur, has been booked along with Sawant.
