Udupi, May 21: Teachers collectively opposed the criterion by which the transfers were made at the counseling session for transfer of teachers held at St Mary’s school here on Saturday.

The stir by the teachers protesting against the term of service fixed by the government at five years led to commotion at the venue of the counseling.

The teachers had come to the spot assuming that government term of service for the teachers, expecting transfer, is two years. Despite protests, the counseling was held without any interruption.

Out of the 508 applications filed by the primary teachers seeking transfers, 62 were selected whereas out of the 87 high school teacher’s applications seeking transfers, six were granted transfer.

The district unit of State Primary Teachers Association has requested the government to reconduct the counseling taking two years service as criterion.
