Mangalore, May 21: A rickshaw driver was assaulted on Saturday night by a group of miscreants at Mary Hill here.

The incident occurred at around 9 pm when Haneef (32) a resident of Bondel had parked his rickshaw at Bondel. A youth disguising himself as a traveler from Davengere boarded the rickshaw and directed it to Lady Hill.

On the way, he signaled to stop near the Mary Hill ground when suddenly about five youth attacked the rickshaw driver with wooden sticks. Haneef was brutally assaulted
The miscreants fled the scene when a passer by came to the rescue of Haneef.

Haneef who suffered head injuries was also injured on his arms and back was admitted to a private hospital.

However the reason was the assault has not been revealed. The police have initiated a search for the miscreants and investigation is on.
