Udupi, May 22: Baidebettu Ramesh Pai (57), who had been injured in a road accident on May 16, passed away in a hospital in Manipal on Sunday, May 21.

He had been been hit by a lorry while on his way from home in Indrali journalists' colony to the 'Laughing Club' session in Manipal and fallen unconscious. After a day in the hospital, he had been brought home.

Taken seriously ill on Sunday morning he was rushed to the hospital again, where the soon after he passed.

Hailing from Baidebettu near Kokkarne in the district, he started off his career with Navabharat Kannada daily in 1970.

Later on he moved over to Udayavani and was its Mangalore reporter for some time. After promotion as sub editor, he was posted to Manipal.

He is survived by mother, wife and two sons.
