AIADMK begins seat-sharing talks with Left parties

Chennai, Feb 5 (IANS): The ruling AIADMK party in Tamil Nadu Wednesday began talks on seat-sharing with the two communist parties for the upcoming general elections, the party said.

In two separate statements issued here, the AIADMK said its four-member seat-sharing committee held first round talks with the state leaders of Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) and the Communist Party of India (CPI).

AIADMK general secretary and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa announced earlier this week the party's decision to forge electoral alliance with the two left parties to fight the general elections.

She said the present aim was to win all the 40 seats (39 in Tamil Nadu and one in Puducherry) in the elections and the election plank will be peace, prosperity and progress.
