Delhi International Arts Festival begins Feb 8


New Delhi, Feb 6 (IANS): Egyptian and Sri Lankan dance troupes, Manipuri and Kashmiri folk dancers and Rajasthani folk musicians will open the seventh Delhi International Arts Festival here Feb 8.

The two week-long festival will be held at multiple venues across the national capital where traditional classical music and dance performances by artists from Kerala, Odisha, West Bengal and Jharkhand will offer a slice of Incredible India to people.

Veteran theatre playwright K.N. Pannikar's popular play "Abhignana Shakuntala" will be staged and a Dhrupad festival will be held during the cultural treat.

A series of films starring late Bollywood actor Farooque Sheikh and legendary actor Pran will be shown.

Sheikh's well known films like "Umrao Jaan", "Chashme Baddoor" and Pran's "Jis Desh Mein Ganga Behti Hain" and "Ram aur Shyam" will be screened at the India Habitat Centre.

The festival will end Feb 23 with a "sufi and qawwali night" which will bring on stage the Warsi qawwals of Hyderabad and Punjabi folk and sufi singer Barkat Sindhu.
