Bird radar system showcased at Defexpo

New Delhi, Feb 6 (IANS): Indian company OIS Advanced Technology Thursday showcased the "industry's first 3D avian radar system" at Defexpo here, with the equipment having ability "to pinpoint the precise bird location".

OIS Advanced Technology chairman and managing director Sanjay Bhandari said the radar system helps in locating, tracking and monitoring birds that congregate on large tracts of unused land which are used as "noise and safety buffers" at civilian and military airports.

"We are very proud to present industry's first 3D bird radar system. Traditionally, maritime radars were adapted for this purpose but did not prove to be very effective. So, in that sense, this is an industry breakthrough," he said.

Company officials said the radar has the ability to pinpoint the precise bird location and has a detection range of 11 km. They said that the radar had undergone trials with the Indian Air Force.

OIS-AT is a manufacturer of advanced technology dual-use products with focus on homeland security.
