Writers need to take up sci-fi genre: Jayant Narlikar

Panaji, Feb 6 (IANS): There are not enough quality sci-fi writers in India, and well-known exponents of fiction should try their hand on the genre, famous astro-physicist Jayant Narlikar said here Thursday.

Narlikar, a Padma Vibhushan awardee, was delivering a speech during a lecture series in Goa.

"I know I am not a good writer. I am only an amateur. Well-known writers of short stories and novels in India should take up science fiction," said Narlikar, who himself writes sci-fi in Marathi.

"Science fiction writing needs good writers. There is dearth here," the astronomer said, adding that writers often got unnerved when confronted with science concepts.
