Udupi, May 23: A bicycle rider was killed in an accident here at Udyavar on Monday May 22 morning.

The deceased has been identified as Prabhat Poojary (40), a resident of Kutpady.  He was on his way to Pitrody on his bicycle when a water supplying tanker came from behind and knocked him down. 

As a result, Prabhat fell on the road head-on and sustained serious injuries in his head.  The injury was fatal and Prabhat died on the spot.  Though it could have been a hit and run case, tanker driver wanted to escape, the immediate intervention by the localites prevented the tanker driver from fleeing.  However, as soon as the people came near the tanker, he jumped out and managed to escape.

Prabhat Poojary was a well-known person in the Udyavar region for all.  Presently he was working as electrician in Ganesh Electricals at Kadekar near here.  He is survived by wife and two children.

The Udupi police have booked a case in this regard.
