Mangalore, May 24:
BJP must make its stand clear on the Nagarjuna Power Project proposed to be set up at Yellur near Padubidri here, said a press release issued by the Nagarjuna Vidyut Stavara Virodhi Samiti.

K Somanath Nayak, one of the conveners of the Samiti, said in the release that the BJP, when it was in opposition, had opposed the coal-based power project but now that it was the ruling party it should clarify whether its stand on the project still remains the same.

Nayak also questioned the silence of district in-charge minister Dr V S Acharya over the issue. He further alleged that the chief minister H D Kumaraswamy was intent on imposing the project in the district but the people here will challenge and fight the government.

The Samiti will convene a meeting on June 1 at 10.30 to 1 pm at Swadesh Heritage here. Thereafter, a special programme will be held from 1 pm to inform the public on the issue of setting up the power project. The resource person will be energy expert Shankar Sharma from Mysore.
