Domracheva first woman to win three biathlon golds in Olympics

Sochi, Feb 18 (IANS): Darya Domracheva of Belarus completed a hat-trick of Olympic gold medals in women's biathlon by winning the 12.5-kilometre mass start race at the Laura Biathlon course.

With the title Monday night, the 27-year-old Doracheva became the first woman to win three biathlon golds in one Olympics, having already won the 10km pursuit and 15km individual race last week, reports Xinhua.

"It's amazing to be here because I dreamed about it, to be an Olympic champion, from my childhood. But to get three -- dreams do come true," said Domracheva.

Domracheva also became the fifth woman in winter Olympic history to win at least three gold medals in individual events at a single Games.

The overall record for most biathlon gold medals in one Olympics is held by Norway'S Ole Einar Bjoerndalen, who won four events at the 2002 Salt Lake City Games.

Domracheva is also expected to compete in the relay, but Belarus is not among the favourites for gold.
