Independiente to play Union Espanola in Libertadores Cup


Quito (Ecuador), Feb 18 (IANS): Ecuador league runners-up Independiente del Valle will take on Chilean team Union Espanola in a Libertadores Cup match Tuesday.

The match at the Municipal General Ruminahui Stadium in the city of Sangolqui, which is located 19 kilometres from the capital city here, is the debut of both teams for the first round of Group 2 at the second stage of the Libertadores Cup, reports Xinhua.

The match, to be played at 20:30 local time (01:30 GMT), is to be refereed by the Raul Orozco of Bolivia.

Independiente del Valle advanced to the Libertadores Cup after winning the recent Olmedo Ecuadorian football Championship.

Independiente is ranked third among 12 teams in the local league, with eight points.
